Agnès Aflalo first understands this title, "A Real for the 21st Century", as a paradox. Never, before now, did anyone ever think to date the real. Something then has changed for which this act of dating is an indication. The real that has changed and that henceforth carries the mark of its time is the real of science, or more exactly, that of the human organism perceived by science, pretending to come to terms with the real of the libido that would be lodged there. We are entering into the era of the genetically modified human, with its corolary, the tyranny of the normative. On the level of the real however, the encounter with the Other sex remains and will remain enigmatic. And the psychoanalytical discourse is that place where, beyond the impossible that governs this in relation to the Other, each one can invent his/her good way of doing. Hence, if psychoanalysts don't disarm, the future of psychoanalysis still lies ahead !
